Sharjah: The Sharjah Museums Department (SMD) successfully concluded its participation in the Beijing International Tourism Expo 2012 (BITE), Asia’s leading annual travel and tourism event.
The expo was held at the China National Convention Centre from Friday to Sunday with the participation of 800 exhibitors from 70 different destinations
SMD participated alongside the Sharjah Tourism and Commerce Development Authority (STCDA) in BITE 2012 where SMD’s stand received great response from visitors who were impressed with its rich cultural contents representing SMD’s 16 museums. The Department was eager to participate in this major tourism event to promote the Emirate’s prestigious museums and their diverse cultural treasures.
On the sidelines of BITE 2012, SMD representatives met with a number of senior officials and top executives and professionals representing the cultural tourism market, as well as with visitors who expressed their admiration for the status of Sharjah as a capital of culture, heritage, civilisation and art, which qualified it to be recognised as the capital of Islamic culture for 2014.
Shawah Leila from Ibho Tourism and Travel Agency expressed his interest in co-operating with the Sharjah Museums Department, and said that he was looking forward to sending tourist groups to the home of rich civilisation and diverse cultures that is Sharjah.
Amelia Toma, director of Zagreb Tourist Board, expressed her keen interest in co-ordinating with SMD to organise tourist trips to Sharjah. Many other tourism and travel agencies and official tourism bodies also demonstrated their willingness and interest to visit Sharjah so as to acquaint themselves with its cultural diversity and rich civilisation.
