In the morning of August 8th 2008, at the meeting room of the National Museum of Vietnamese History, has taken place the first Congress of the Vietnamese Archaeological Association (official international name).
Are present at the session of foundation of the Association, nearly 300 members which are archaeologists, and individuals who are fond of archaeology, coming from towns and provinces of all the country. The assembly has the honour to receive the Ex - state President Tran Duc Luong. The assembly has unanimously elected the Council of Administration composed of 19 members, representative of the archaeologists of the three Norht, Center and South regions of the country. Mr Hoang Xuan Chinh was elected President of the Association. The Ex - State President Tran Duc Luong was invited to the chair of President of Honour of the Association.
The assembly has approved the regulations of the Vietnamese Archaeological Association with the name, the purpose, the domain of activity and the principles of activity organization. It is a political, social and professional organization of vietnamese citizens working in archaeology or related with archaeology. The purpose of the Association is to assemble and mobilize all the talents in archaeology in order to contribute to the construction and the defence of the fatherland, to the realization of a rich, strong, equitable, democratic and civilized society. The members are furnished with a card of the Association and can assist to activities of the Association: assistance to annual archaeological symposiums, reception of the aids of the Association in realizing projects patronized by the Association, assistance to professional seminaries in the country and abroad.
One can say that the creation of the Vietnamese Archaeological Association is a meaningful fact for the archaeological world of Vietnam and abroad. It is a channel for the transfer of information and for the exchanges of cooperation with other Archaeological Associations. With the aim at community archaeology, the Vietnamese Archaeological Association will cooperate with other associations such as the Vietnamese Historical Association, the Association of Vietnamese Cultural Patrimonies… in the preservation and development of the vietnamese culture, advanced and impregnated with national characters.
