During the meeting, both sides expressed their satisfaction with the steady progress in cultural heritage cooperation between Vietnam and Korea. For nearly 20 years, based on historical and cultural similarities, the cooperation programs between the VNMH and the NRIMH have effectively implemented joint projects, including surveys, excavations, and publications on underwater cultural heritage.

The meeting focused on the preliminary results of joint surveys in Chau Thuan maritime area (Quang Ngai Province), conducted since March 2026. At - depths of 2 to 4 meters, the archaeological team identified numerous ceramic and stoneware fragments, such as bowls, plates, cups, and jars dating from the 9th to the 18th centuries. Most findings are Chinese ceramics featuring celadon, brown-glazed, and blue-and-white wares, alongside several coins from the Northern Song Dynasty.

- Although no shipwreck has yet been identified, these materials indicate the significant archaeological potential of the Chau Thuan area. They provide important evidence  for ancient maritime trade routes and highlight Vietnam’s historical role in regional and international trade networks. Both sides agreed to carry out further research with advanced technology and to strengthen coordination with local authorities in the management and preservation of these resources.
The Korean delegation also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the VNMH in developing human resources through short-term practical training programs in underwater archaeology.
Building on this research and training foundation, the two sides aim to expand cooperation in exhibitions and media activities, contributing to greater awareness of Vietnam's maritime cultural heritage.
Speaking at the session, Director Nguyen Van Doanemphasized that while Vietnam has great potential for underwater heritage, research and conservation still face challenges regarding human resources, equipment, and methodology. Therefore, strengthening international cooperation, especially in technology and trainingis very important at this stage.
