Panorama of the meeting
At the meeting, the Japanese experts wished to conduct a survey of the collection of Japanese and Chinese paintings currently kept at the VNMH and finding collaboration opportunities in the future. Responding to the Japanese side's proposal, Dr. Nguyen Van Doan said that the VNMH is a place to store documents and artifacts reflecting the historical progress of Vietnam, from pre-historic times to the present. In addition to professional activities such as archaeology, exhibition and education, the Museum also focuses on preservation. Currently, the Museum is coordinating with the Sumitomo Foundation (Japan) to carry out -a preservation project of the VNMH’s decree collection, however the number of preserved artifacts is limited. Therefore, Dr. Nguyen Van Doan hopes that this survey will be the basis for the two sides to cooperate in painting collection preservation projects as well as support the training of preserver.
