On the afternoon of March 25, 2022, the Vietnam National Museum of History (VNMH) had a meeting with experts from the University of East Asia (Japan). The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the research and excavation plan at the ancient citadel of Luy Lau (Bac Ninh province).

The meeting was attended by Dr. Nguyen Van Doan - Director of the VNMH and heads of the Department of Archaeology and the Department of Communication and International Relations. The Japanese team included Prof. Koh Rion and Prof. Kinosita Yasuaki.

At the meeting, the two parties reviewed and evalutated the results of cooperation activities within the framework of the Archaeological Research Cooperation Project during the period 2014 - 2019. During this period, several joint archaeological excavations were  carried out and initially clarified the cultural characteristics of Luy Lau ancient citadel, proving that it is not only an ancient civilized center of the Red River Delta region but also a key site that occupies an important place in the history of East Asian civilization as well as the history of cultural exchange in Asia.

Due to the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic, the excavation investigation has been delayed for the past two years. To continue implementation of the proposed plan, the two parties will cooperate to excavate this site for the 6th time in 2022. The excavation will last from March 26, 2022 to May 13, 2022.

The two parties also discussed the publication of the research report at the end of 2022, and planned to organize an international scientific conference to introduce the ancient metropolis of Luy Lau, scheduled for 2023 - 2024.
