With the approval of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Vietnam), the Vietnam National Museum of History has loaned a ceramic collection to the Gwangju National Museum (South Korea) for exposing at the Asian Ceramic Culture Gallery. The exhibition was officially opened on December 18, 2020.

With an area of nearly 680m2, the exhibition space is designed in vertical and horizontal lines. The vertical of the gallery shows the development of Korean ceramics from the Neolithic period to the modern period, while the horizontal shows the development of Asian ceramics through historical periods as well as special ceramic artefacts from Sinan shipwreck.

The Vietnamese ceramic collection includes 73 typical and unique ceramic objects of the Vietnam National Museum of History dated from 3500 - 3000 BP to the 19th century with various and abundant types such as pots, jars, incense burners and so on. This is an opportunity for international friends in general and Koreans in particular to have a comprehensive view of Asian ceramics, especially the process of formation and development of Vietnamese ceramics.

Due to the complicated and unpredictable developments of the Covid-19 epidemic, the two museums agreed on the plan to hand over the objects in the online form and authorized the Vietnamese shipping company to pack and supervise the transportation of objects to the airport in Vietnam. The Gwangju National Museum is responsible for receiving and transporting objects from the Korean airport to the exhibition avenue.

This is an unprecedented method of handing over objects of the Vietnam Natonal Museum of History, however, with the cooperation and close supervision of both museums during the working process, the ceramic collection was brought to Korea under absolutely safe conditions.

The long-term special exhibition "The flow of Vietnamese ceramic culture" will last for two years (from December 18, 2020 to October 31, 2022).
