Documentation and Library

There are nearly 20,000 publications stored at VNMH’s Library related to different fields such as history, archeology, museums, celebrity, military and so on, written in many languages like Vietnamese, English, French, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, German. There are more than 140 types of dictionary, more than 200 types of national and international social science magazines such as Bulletin of EFEO (BEFEO), Bulletin of Japanese National Museum of History, Journal of Arts Asiatiques, Asian Perspectives, Nam Phong Magazine and so on.

Especially, there are numerous publications of French scholars studying the fields of Vietnamese culture, Champa culture and prehistory of Indochina published in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Every year, the library's store is periodically enriched with hundreds of domestic and international books and magazines, as well as a number of books and magazines exchanged with foreign museums and international organizations.

The library is currently maintaining a database of translated documents and exchanged materials (mainly translated from French, English, Russian, German etc). This database is intended for research and professional work in many fields such as archeology, history, ethnology, art history and museology. The library regularly exchanges documents with other agencies such as the Institute of Archeology, the Institute of Ethnology, the Vietnam Art Museum and so on.

Currently, in order to facilitate the retrieval of information, all publications are managed by the COSLIB system. Readers can search for publications on the library computer. In addition, all images and videos (over 40,000 videos and photos) are now digitized to store and easy to search. Readers can search on the computer for specific issues: Historical - cultural vestiges; Materials related to cultures, archaeological excavations, typical artifact collections, national resistance.
