Collection of white glazed porcelains (decorated with patterns of cobalt-blue on the white background), and painted enamel artefacts, Nguyen dynasty, 19th century-early 20th century AD
The objects in this collection were made in China on order of the Nguyen Kings, including Gia Long, Minh Mang, Thieu Tri, Tu Duc and Khai Dinh, in a period which started in 1804 and lasted to 1925. The decorative patterns are very rich, with dragon, cloud and floral motifs, as well as Chinese characters. Of particular note are inscriptions of the reigns of the Nguyen Kings and many famous landscapes of Vietnam, including Hai Van pass, Tam Thai mount, Thuy Van mount, Thuan Hoa market and Thien Mu pagoda, etc. The collection is not only imbued with the historical and cultural values of Vietnamese people but also reflects the cultural and economic exchange and development of the Nguyen dynasty during this period.
