Axes, pebble, Hoa Binh culture, c. 18,000 - 7,000 BP.

These tools were most popular and typical of Hoa Binh culture. The axes vary in shape: oval, triangular, trapezoidal, rectangular, and unidentified shapes. They were made by using one-sided flaking and hewing technique. Some short axes were made using a blade grinding technique. The grinding technique, which appeared in Hoa Binh culture, helped create sharper tools, which were more productive and marked the development of making pebble tools. These artefacts indicate a “revolution” in the Neolithic period in Vietnam.
